Car – Train Accident Kills Two Women

Comments Off

An unfortunate train-car accident today resulted in a commuter train colliding with a car at a railroad crossing, killing two women, said transit police.

The driver of the car was trying to beat the train across the tracks on Sunday, said the Police Chief for the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District that is in charge of operating the railroad.

Both women were pronounced dead at the scene located near County Line Road and U.S. 12. Both victims were identified by the coroner’s office.

Witnesses told transit police the car drove around a lowered crossing arm in front of a freight train on a track that runs parallel to South Shore, then attempted to do the very same thing in front of the commuter train. The crash sent the car into a utility pole and scattered debris along 100 yards. The train only received minor damage.
